Been busy writing now a second family history book. It is so exciting to learn about people and their lives from hundreds of years ago and to see they struggled with the same things we are today. It just proves the point that we must learn history so to prevent us from making those same mistakes again in the future.
History tip: Since we are now in the digital age, when you upload pictures to the computer include the people's names, date, and where the picture was taken in the file name or the caption area. One day, a grandchild or even great-grandchild will be looking at those and who may have forgotten who the people are or you may not even be here on Earth to answer the questions. Scrap booking is a great way to preserve your family pictures with details for all to see.

Happy New Years!
Happy 2011!!! Amazing to have another year down & to begin a new one. This time of year always finds me reflecting on the past and anticipating the future.
I have recently just finished my first publication and am already working on the re-write for the next edition/installment. So much more information comes available as the new year arrives.
As you look back to those you lost this year, think about how you will one day share those memories with your children, grandchildren, and even quite possibly your great grandchildren. Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could write out those memories now before they are erased from your mind? Let me help you with that. It is a great joy and privilege to open the past up to the current and future generations that may never meet the policy makers and shakers of the family line. Who knows - perhaps they could one day inspire your child to become a statesmen or president.

Christmas Gift Idea
As Christmas is quickly approaching, I am busy working on a massive project of my own -- a family history book for my father in law. I have found out so much information and am in the process of making it more readable for the "non-genealogy" minded folks. It has been fun but exhausting, since I am a perfectionist to the core, but I can't wait to see his face on Christmas when he sees what I've been up to & why I've been so nosey. :)
What about you?? This gift isn't just for Christmas but for anytime: a family reunion, birthdays, weddings, births, and those wonderful just because moments of life. If you are interested in having your own family history made into a book, contact me today and let's get started.

End of the Year
As you get ready to spend the holidays with family, start thinking of questions you want to ask the older members and do it! (The 20 Questions is a great place to start.)
Anytime the generations can get together and visit is a great time to ask those questions that can lead you to the path of discovering your family history. Make sure you write down (or record on your new smart phone - Merry Christmas!) everything that is said -- all the stories and memories, so that those can be incorporated into your family heritage. The newest Family Tree Maker software actually has a place to upload video and recordings so that you can transcribe it into a story for your book.

GRANDPARENT'S DAY!
Grandparent's Day is around the corner, September 12th!
If you are looking for ideas for them, then start with something personal and limited - their own life stories.
Ask them about life growing up and get their thoughts on worldly events. You might be surprised to find out what they have lived through, their joys & sorrows, their highs & lows. This too is a GREAT way to start your family history story -- it will give you information you will need to start searching your tree.
After talking to them, if you want to continue your search then contact me to start.
